An exciting moment! Our first batch of honey we sp An exciting moment! Our first batch of honey we spun out after 2 years of beekeeping! We now have three hives and are prepping them for winter. If you remember my hive died for no particular reason last winter.

One cause of death could be excess moisture. When bees exhale it creates moisture, that warm moist air rises to the top of the hive, condenses into water droplets and can drips back down, causing the bee cluster to get cold and ultimately freeze to death. We use the “quilting method,” which is using wood shavings to collect the moisture and wind to evaporate the shavings on drier winter days.

So much science at learn here!
